A Great Way to Deal with Registration-Required Content
If your site serves up content that requires registration, but you’d like to be able to earn links and show search engines the full text of the piece (rather than just a snippet), consider using the “first 2 visits free” rule. Allow visitors who come to your site to visit up to 2 pieces of registration-req’d content without logging in, and search engines to view the content without restriction. The visitor experience will get you the links to your content (as people naturally discover and share) and the search engines will send you the full traffic your content deserves. Plus, you’ll only be registering folks who are really interested in what you have to offer, so you’re more likely to get a conversion.
Think like an ice cream vendor – the first taste is free, but after that, you’ve got to buy a cone.
